The fruit recipe challenge

 

A new month; another Blogger’s Monthly Fiesta challenge. For September 2015 we decided on a fruit recipe challenge, with each blogger at liberty to choose their own fruit. We also had a number of new bloggers joining our monthly challenge for the first time.

It is nearing the end of Summer and the blogger mamas were exhausted and tired from the long summer at home with the bambinos. Since we are still enjoying the last of the summer bounties our September challenge was a fruit recipe that was versatile enough for all the participants to utilize.

I have seen so many amazing recipes over the past few months. Stone fruits and berries have been on every magazine cover or food related website for most of the Summer and I still have not made a single crumble or fruit pie.

However, I must admit that I was a bit mesmerized by the South African citrus that I found at my local supermarket. Although citrus are usually winter fruits, it is still in season in South Africa, and available in the UAE during the summer months (June to September). The aroma of the grapefruit and navel oranges was too much to bear, so my offering for this recipe challenge had to be a citrus salad with pomegranate and pistachio.
